Tsunagu (“we,” “us,” or “our”) operates the Tsunagu mobile application. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our app. Please read this policy carefully. By using Tsunagu, you consent to the practices described herein.

Information You Provide

  • Account Information: Name, email address, date of birth, gender, and authentication credentials (including Apple Sign-In tokens).
  • Profile Information: Photos, bio, interests, language preferences, nationality, and other details you choose to share.
  • Communications: Messages sent through the app, reports you submit, and support inquiries.
  • Payment Information: Subscription purchases are processed by Apple’s App Store. We do not store your payment card details.

Information Collected Automatically

  • Device Information: Device type, operating system, unique device identifiers, and app version.
  • Location Data: With your permission, approximate location to enable distance-based matching.
  • Usage Data: Features used, interactions, session duration, and app performance data.
  • Crash Reports: Anonymized diagnostic data to improve app stability.

3. How We Use Your Information

  • Provide, maintain, and improve the Tsunagu service.
  • Match you with other users based on your preferences and location.
  • Facilitate in-app messaging and translation features.
  • Ensure safety and enforce our community guidelines, including content moderation.
  • Send push notifications (with your permission) about matches, messages, and updates.
  • Process subscription transactions via Apple’s payment systems.
  • Analyze usage patterns to improve the user experience.
  • Comply with legal obligations.

4. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We may share information in the following cases:

  • With Other Users: Your profile information, photos, and Moments are visible to other users as part of the service.
  • Service Providers: We use trusted third-party services for hosting (Supabase), content moderation, translation, push notifications, and analytics. These providers are bound by data protection agreements.
  • Legal Requirements: We may disclose information if required by law, regulation, or legal process, or to protect the safety of our users.
  • Safety: In cases involving child exploitation material (CSAM), we are legally required to report to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and relevant authorities.

5. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored on secure servers provided by Supabase with encryption at rest and in transit. We implement industry-standard security measures including row-level security policies, encrypted authentication tokens, and regular security audits. However, no system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

6. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:

  • Access, correct, or delete your personal data.
  • Object to or restrict certain processing activities.
  • Download a copy of your data in a portable format.
  • Withdraw consent for optional data processing (e.g., location services).

7. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will remove your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law (e.g., CSAM reporting records). Anonymized analytical data may be retained indefinitely.

Tsunagu is not intended for anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect information from minors. If we discover that a user is under 18, their account will be immediately terminated.

9. International Data Transfers

Your data may be processed in countries outside your country of residence, including the United States and Japan. We ensure appropriate safeguards are in place for any international transfers.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes through the app or by email. Continued use of Tsunagu after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
